How to Print a Microsoft PowerPoint Document
Many of the classes offered at our nursing school are taught using Microsoft PowerPoint slides. Frequently, students have difficulty remembering how to best print these slides to bring to class or study from. Here are some basic instructions for how to print a PowerPoint file.
The first thing you want to do is decide which style of printing you want to use. Check out our article on “Microsoft PowerPoint Printing Styles” for more information. Then, ensure that you have a working printer with paper and ink hooked up and installed on your computer. Once this is done, you can print.
Just follow these instructions to get your files printed.
- In older versions of PowerPoint, you will see a menu bar on the PowerPoint document, you will see the word “File”. Click on this to bring up a drop-down menu. In newer versions, there will be an Office logo in the upper-left corner of the document near the menu tabs, which will open the same drop-down menu as the “File” button.
- Select the option marked “Print”.
- From here, you will see several options.
- In the Printer Name menu, select the printer you wish to print from.
- For Print Range, you can either select “All” to print the entire document, or “Slides” and enter the specific slide numbers you want to print.
- Then, under the “Print What” Section, select the type of printing format from the list above that you want to print. If you select “Handouts”, be sure to select the number of slides per page you want from the “Slides Per Page” menu.
- Finally, select whether you want your slides to be printed in Color, Grayscale, or Pure Black & White from the “Color” menu. If you do not have a color printer and your PowerPoint has a colorful background, or if you want to save ink by not printing the background, I suggest selecting “Pure Black & White” to maximize visibility.
