Enhance Communication With Our Students

Communication is vital to the success of any endeavor. At ALC, we wish to assure that you are always aware of the latest happenings.

For example, all class cancellations will be posted immediately. Prior to getting in your car, you can check this web site to see if the class was canceled for any reason, such as weather, illness, holidays, etc.

Email Notification

To assure that you are made aware of new happenings and class information, we highly recommend that you sign up for email notification of new postings. Signing up is easy. At the top of our web pages, you will see a white area where you type in your email address. Then click the “Sign Up” button.

Next, check your email. You will receive an email asking you to confirm your sign up. Click the link in the body of the email and you are all set to go. FYI: This step is necessary to prevent email spammers from abusing our system.

If you have your mobile phone set up to receive email, you will know right away when storms or illness cause a class cancellation or there is a new posting for your class.

Unfortunately, there is no way to filter out notifications for postings from other classes. However, deleting a few emails is a small price to pay to assure that you have up-to-date information that you do need.

Should you choose to discontinue receiving these emails, there is an “Unsubscribe” link at the bottom of each email. Once you click “Unsubscribe”, you will be automatically removed from our email notification system.

Twitter Alerts

Should you choose to use a Twitter account, you can link it to our website to get immediate notification of these events on your Twitter feed page. You can even set it up to alert your mobile phone! What could be more convenient?

Links

On the right side of the page, you will see a section entitled “Links”. This provides an easy way to access other parts of our website. Here you will discover links to our class schedule, success stories, job openings, shopping sites specific to nurses, discounted textbooks, etc.

Provide Supplemental Information Vital to Your Success

Categories

Also on the right side of the page, you will see a section entitled “Categories”. Click on the “+” sign next to any category to get a drop-down list. You will find a category for every course in our program. Each contains valuable information relevant to the courses you are taking. You will also find categories that explain everything from how to pay for and schedule your examination to information on how you can benefit from the nursing crisis.

New material is added every day, so be sure to check regularly.

Calendar

When you first visit this site, the home page will list excerpts from all the latest materials. You can also search by date by clicking on the specific date on the calendar (On the top right side). If you know that the information you are looking for was first posted on June 15th, just click on that date and all information first posted that day will appear.

Foster Interaction Between Instructors and Students Between Classes

Our instructors will be posting material and checking this site regularly. Assignments will be posted here, as well as links to quizzes, tests, etc. Imagine, instead of paying hundreds of dollars to Excelsior College for practice tests, you will find them here for free.

Instructors who use PowerPoint slides in class can make these available to our students here as well. Did you miss last week’s Microbiology class? If so, you will find a link to the slides to help you catch up. Keep in mind that each classes pace is a little different, so the class may be a little behind or a little ahead of the posted slides.

Leave A Reply Feature

This is where you can type in your questions or comments. The first time you attempt this, you will have to register first. Simply click on the “Register” link and enter your email address and whatever user name you prefer. You will then have to check your email for a password.

Once you return to the web site, click “Login” (on the top of the right hand column). Enter your user name and password and you are all set. You can set this to keep you logged in up to two weeks. As long as you return to the website before 2 weeks, it will keep you logged in.

BTW: should you clear the “cookies” from your computer, you will need to login again the next time you visit the web site.

This is common practice on the internet to prevent spam and viruses.

All replies are reviewed before they are posted. Please keep in mind that the entire student body will be able to see what you wrote, once it is approved. Things like abusive language, rants, etc. will not be approved. Relevancy is also important. Replies with information not relevant (for example, a Sociology question or comment is left after a Lifespan post) will not be approved for viewing by all.

Once approved, the instructor will also post a reply to your comment/question where appropriate.

All can learn from this as chances are if you have a question, others do as well.

Assure That ALC Students Always Have Up-to-Date Material

From time to time, Excelsior College changes their examinations. While awaiting a revised tutorial from DLSI, ALC will post the changes to this web site to assure that you can go into the examinations confident that you have all the up-to-date information you need to pass.

Social Bookmarking

Below each article posting is a list of icons for popular social networking and social bookmarking web sites. If you are already a member, or wish to become a member, of any of these sites, such as Facebook, StumbleUpon, or Digg, you can use these sites to bookmark articles with information you want to be able to find easily. Just click on the icon below to bookmark the article you are viewing on your site. This way you can easily find and share the information without having to remember what day it was posted or which section it was under.

A Note About Your Tutorials and Textbooks

Please keep in mind that this web site is not intended to replace your tutorials and nursing textbooks. You will not succeed without studying them. What this web site does is SUPPLEMENT those materials. For those who are always looking for more practice exams – you will find them here. Need clarification on a confusing Microbe – you will find it here. However, you will not necessarily understand the information this site presents without a solid understanding of the material in your tutorials and textbooks.
